Baku Chilov Map

Chilov

Historically, Çilov was also known as Çilov-Şahilan. The name Ronis was given by the Persians. The name Jiloy belongs to the Russians. This is justified by the fact that Stepan Razin, a Don Cossack, settled on this island for some time and conducted robbery raids on the coastal areas.

The island is located in the Caspian Sea. It is located 55 kilometers east of Baku on the Absheron Peninsula.

Oil and gas deposits were discovered near Chilov island by Russian Rear Admiral Count Mark Voynovich while he led an expedition to the Caspian Sea in 1781.

In the 1950s, an air defense military unit was located on the island, where the air defense of Baku from the eastern part was organized. For this purpose, the C75 anti-aircraft missile complex was placed on the island.
