Guanahani (San Salvador)
Guanahani Island is also known as San Salvador Island, and it is part of the Bahamas archipelago. The island was inhabited by the Lucayan people, who were a subgroup of the TaĆno people of the Caribbean. They called the island Guanahani. Christopher Columbus first saw the island on October 12, 1492, and named it San Salvador. He believed that he had landed in the East Indies, and so he called the native people "Indians."
The island is also home to the Watling's Castle, which is a 15th-century stone structure that was built by the Lucayan people.
