Iwo Jima

Iwo Jima is a volcanic island located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,200 kms south of Tokyo, Japan. During World War II, it was the site of a major battle between the United States and Japan, known as the Battle of Iwo Jima.

The battle of Iwo Jima was significant for several reasons. It provided the US with a strategic base from which to launch further attacks on Japan, and it also served as a morale boost for the American people, who were able to see the heroism of their soldiers firsthand. The famous photograph of US Marines raising the American flag on top of Mount Suribachi during the battle has become an iconic symbol of American valor and patriotism.
