Mount Olympus
Mount Olympus is Greece's tallest peak with the highest peak reaching an elevation of 2,917 meters. It is located in the Olympus Range on the boundary between Thessaly and Macedonia, between the regional units of Larissa and Pieria, and is part of the Olympus massif near the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea. The name's origin is uncertain. According to one explanation, it is a combination of ou lyma and pous, which means "pure foot," and corresponds to Hesiod's portrayal of the earth as a type of footstool for heaven, from which the "Blessed Gods" ascend.
