Tristan da Cunha
Tristan da Cunha, sometimes known as Tristan, is a series of isolated volcanic islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is the world's most remote inhabited archipelago, located around 2,787 kilometers from Cape Town, South Africa.
The uninhabited islands were initially discovered in 1506 by Portuguese explorer Tristo da Cunha, but landing was impossible due to harsh waves. He called the main island Ilha de Tristo da Cunha after himself. From its first reference on British Admiralty maps to Tristan da Cunha Island. The United Kingdom annexed the islands on 14 August 1816, sending a garrison to secure control and designating them a dependency of the Cape Colony in South Africa.
